Dope Under Thorncombe

In the 1930s local people - including the Trevett family - got together to make Dope Under Thorncombe, a melodrama based around the area of West Bay.

It is a rare and novel piece of silent cinematography but for this latest outing it will be accompanied by a premiere of a dramatic new score by Rachel Leach.

Brought by rural media company Trilith’s Trevor Bailey said: “The film is a wild melodrama about dope smuggling on the Dorset coast.

"It has all the ingredients:  glamorous heroine, handsome hero, brutish matelots, an evil gang boss from London, fisticuffs, kidnap, pursuit and a shoot out! It was shot on 9.5mm film, the amateur’s favourite film choice in the 1930s.

"It was an amazing project for local people to take on and has been crying out to be given its own special music and to be seen more widely.”
